Nightly Construction on Bloor Street W., August 16 & Friday August 17, 2018. 8 p.m. – 6 a.m.

Posted in Construction Notices, Road Work, Ward 5

A message from the Six Points Construction Team:

Construction will be conducted between the hours of 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. in the area of Bloor Street and Dunbloor Road, and will require a lane reduction along Bloor Street to access portions of the site for underground work. This work includes the installation of a gas distribution line. No local natural gas services will be effected by this work.

Due to the current limited capacity of Bloor St (due to ongoing construction) and high traffic during the day, work will be conducted at night. All efforts will be made to reduce noise, but in some cases this may be unavoidable. East/west vehicular travel along Bloor St will be maintained via one active lane of flagged traffic to allow motorists to travel along Bloor Street. The use of alternate travel routes (e.g. Dundas Street) is encouraged.

We apologize for any inconvenience this will cause.

Upcoming Sewer Rehabilitation Construction in Ward 5

Posted in Ward 5

Works to be executed: July 20 – August 20, 2018
Dates for sewer works may change slightly contingent on weather and other conditions.
Contract# 17TW-OS-08CWD

Work Details
Inspection of Main Sewer / Inspection of Lateral Sewer
The inspection of the sewer system will involve sending a closed circuit TV (CCTV) camera into the sewer pipes to take images of different pipe segments. In order to CCTV inspect the sewers, it is necessary to first flush the sewers with high pressure water and remove debris using vacuum trucks. For each segment of sewer, the work should take up to 10 hours depending on the length and condition of the sewer pipe being inspected.

Relining of Main Sewer
Re-lining of main sewer segment(s) requires special materials and equipment such as blowers, air compressors, and/or power generators. For each segment of sewer, the work may take between 6 and 12 hours depending on the length and condition of the sewer pipe being addressed.

Relining of Lateral Sewer
Re-lining of lateral sewer segment(s) requires special materials and equipment such as blowers, air compressors, and/or power generators. For each lateral sewer, the work should take between 1 to 2 hours depending on the length and condition of the sewer pipe being addressed. The method of rehabilitating the existing sewer service connection is primarily trenchless, however, an excavation to install a City clean-out at the streetline (where City property meets private property) will be completed by the contractor prior to lining the sewer connection. The rehabilitation process will consist of several site visits by the contractor utilizing a variety of equipment for different stages in the lining procedure. The contractor will inform to homeowners and/or residents about specific dates and type of work with at least 48 hours in advance.

Posted in Ward 5

We asked Transportation staff to investigate the pedestrian crossing light timing at Zorra St. and The Queensway. The investigation is complete, staff report:

–       Measured North/South (crossing The Queensway) pedestrian crossing distances and confirmed that the pedestrian signal timings are as indicted are below and are in compliance with the current pedestrian timing practice for signalised intersections.
with 7 seconds for the WALK and 24 seconds for the FLASHING DON’T WALK and total pedestrian crossing of time of 31 seconds.

–       Pedestrians MUST activate the push button to display the above noted signal timings.

–       Checked operation of all pedestrian push buttons.

–       The pedestrian push button on the northwest corner at this intersection was found to be defective.  District notified the appropriate city section accordingly to have this issue repaired as soon as possible.

–       Completed pedestrian crossing observation study with a recommendation to maintain the current north/south pedestrian crossing times as indicated above since our field observations reveal that pedestrians were able to safely cross The Queensway within the current timing provided.
