Toronto Pearson Runway Resurfacing Spring 2018

Posted in Updates

A Message from GTAA / Toronto Pearson:

Toronto Pearson is getting ready for the 2018 runway restoration season.

There will be formal communication to the public, including targeted communications to neighbourhoods that may experience a change to the usual operations overhead coming from Toronto Pearson.
Resurfacing of runway 06L/24R (one of our east/west runways, located in the southern area of the airport) is planned in two phases:

  • phase one is planned for spring 2018. Anticipated to begin as early as April 23, 2018 and is expected to be completed in June 2018.
  • phase two (as required) for the fall This project will consist of electrical work and the milling and resurfacing of runway 06L/24R to keep the surface in top condition and ensure continued safe operations.

In comparison to spring 2017s rehabilitation of the 05/23 runway, this work does not require a closure of the runway during peak hours. We have purposefully scheduled the work for off-peak hours when flight traffic is lowest. We recognize that resurfacing will create an impact for some due to aircraft noise and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

The runway will be re-opened daily to enable normal operations.
There is the possibility that the north/south runways may see increased traffic between 10:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m.  The preferential runway assignment will still apply to the defined nighttime hours which are 12:00 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.
Councillor Di Ciano’s office is awaiting the finalization of a detailed timeline and will be reaching out to you again once information is available in advance of the project start date.

Any concerns about aircraft noise should be directed to the GTAA’s Noise Office at: 416-247-7682 or to the online noise complaint form.

Members of the community can find more information on aircraft noise complaints on the Noise Office webpage
